People who have worked in the service industry know that universal health care would make their lives easier. This industry is a crucial part of Oregon, and what can make life here worth living. Unfortunately, these industries are not always able to provide health care coverage.

This is Kimber, a social worker with Multnomah County, and a volunteer with the Portland Chapter of HCAO. We caught up during the Portland Chapter's first Plant Bingo, in early October, raising money, and connecting with folks in Portland about our state's transition to universal health care.

The Jeremy Wilson Foundation provides support to musicians and music industry workers in Oregon and Clark County, Washington as they navigate health-related challenges.

Through the Musician Health & Services Program provided over $35,000 in financial assistance to local musicians in 2024.

The NO KINGS rally last weekend was superb.

It was great to be joined by some many volunteer experts, including insurance brokers who are fed up with working in a broken, predatory health care system.

Now is the Time, and Oregon is the Place.

Donna from the Portland Street Medicine has seen firsthand some of the end results of a healthcare system that is focus on profit, and not on serving the people in our state.

If we improve access to care, we can improve some of the conditions of the people that she serves on the street.

People who are native speakers of other languages have an even harder time accessing healthcare than people who speak English.

Health care should be a right that anyone can access.

HCAO advocates for a universal health care transition in Oregon; a system with everybody in, and nobody out.

Bend and Portland TURNED OUT for No Kings this past Saturday. We talked to hundreds of people about Oregon's work towards universal health care, shared stories about why it's important for us, and stood in solidarity against authoritarianism.

HCAO volunteers were running around the waterfront on October 18th, and our President ran into the Portland Chicken! He's been dancing in the public eye for a few weeks.

We're gathering signatures currently, adding people into our network of engaged Oregonians. We need Universal Health Care!

HCAO staff Claire and Collin were able to stop by the OFNHP strike line in Salem this past Thursday.

We were glad to stand in solidarity with these workers in their 5-day strike, and hope the next steps at the bargaining table with Kaiser.

Oregon has a chance to be the first state to move to universal health care.

We obviously think that it's time for a sea change. We all know that we have the most expensive healthcare system in the world, and have the worst outcomes of any other wealthy nation.

Universal Health Care can save money, and save lives.

People have different reasons for supporting the work of HCAO, and for supporting the concept of a universal healthcare system.

Aaron believes we shouldn't have barriers like language, finances, or where somebody is from getting in the way of people getting their healthcare that they need.
