RIP Brian Glanville. As a kid in the mid-70s, getting obsessed with football, I devoured his books on the World Cup and football history - lit a spark. 20+ years later I remember being slightly in awe speaking to him through work. 'Doyen' indeed...his writings are a fine legacy.
The SJA sends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Brian Glanville, the “doyen of football writers” whose many books - including the essential ‘The Story of the World Cup’ - continue to bring so much insight, knowledge and joy to fans everywhere.

RIP Brian.

13 games without a win in the lge for @thegillsfc.bsky.social

Only 3 longer winless lge runs in club history now.

2. 14 in 1989 and 2021/2

Still, through thick and thin. And thin and thin!

Robbie McKenzie appreciation tweet on a Sunday:

TheGillsFC lge record so far is W9 D2 L8 - win % of 47.4 (projected as 70 pts over a season)

When Robbie plays it's W7 D1 L4 - win % of 58.3 (an 84 pt season)

I know it's not all about 1 player but we do better with him.

Colin 'Paddy' Powell was guest at the Gills on Saturday - I got him to sign my programme, for old times' sake. I used to ask pre-match back when i was a pre-teen in the old GRS. An extensive trawl in the grand programme collection revealed that, in fact, the last time I had asked was 42 yrs ago! 😳

Today it's 12 years since Dad left us, far too soon (throat cancer). A Gillingham fan for 60 years and the reason i am a fan - I still find myself reaching for the phone to call him for his reaction to a performance/result and have to 'whoa-pause-reset'. UTG

After tonight's win on pens
The Gills' record in shootouts has now improved to W10 L9 & we've now won our last four pen shootouts
23/8/2022 6-5 v Exeter (H) LC2
11/10/2022 5-4 v v Colchester (H) FLT
08/11/2022 6-5 v Brentford (A) LC3
12/11/2024 5-4 v Stevenage (A) FLT
November 12, 2024 at 9:19 PM
So a third into season, the Gills have 13 pts from games vs top half sides (W4 D1 L4) & 10 pts v lower (W3 D1 L2).
2nd= best home record (15 pts: only Walsall have more) but just 8 pts on the road (very Gills!).
9 of ther next 10 games are v teams below us, 7 v bottom half.🤔

Hello - I post about my football team, Gillingham FC, mostly. But I do have an eclectic range of interests - ranging from Ancient Greece to the NFL, 80s music to Italian food & drink. Just moved in - nice to cross over from the Dark side.
