There's another red-tail in the area who has no belly band at all. It's rare to see a dark morph around here.
For #TalonTuesday, here is a photo of our local resident male Red-Tailed hawk. I call him Charlie after Charlie "Bird" Parker who lived in the neighborhood. 🪶

We are now able to experience Whooping Cranes in ways that were unimaginable only a few decades ago. It's probably been hundreds of years since flocks, numbering in the dozens of individuals, danced together in the warm autumn light. #Birds #conservation #SK
I have to admit, it stopped me in my tracks! 😅
This is my new favorite subway ad. The bald eagle barfing up the stars and stripes really defines the current moment.

An old building with a lot of holes. They often compete with starlings for nest cavities.
Today's #BirdOfTheDay is "kestrel" so here is one from my archives: two youngsters getting ready to take their first flight. 🪶
My favorite warbler: the Northern Parula. They're cute little rainbow birds who are usually pretty accommodating for the camera. 🪶
This is one of my favorite bird portraits: a Short-Tailed Hawk. You can see it has an injury to its wing, so it was being cared for. Seen in Pinellas, FL. 🪶

Ridgewood Reservoir was also an unpleasant experience today because of nonstop helicopter traffic.
Thank you - this was a fun theme for the day.
For #BirdOfTheDay here is an American Robin and House Sparrow sharing a bath. The Robin appears to be chewing out the Sparrow for invading its space, and the Sparrow has a "What did I do?" look on its face. 🪶
The upside to not being raptured today is I get to spend more time on this planet with these guys. 🪶

Apparently we're supposed to post yellow birds today. Here's a happy little Hooded Warbler on his quest for insects. 🪶

Let's close out this Tuesday with a Tricolored Heron. This one was seen going to roost just before sunset. 🪶
Let's make this a better week. I'll start with a cheery Northern Cardinal. These birds are common in my area, but are always show-stoppers. 🪶
I never knew until recently that Great Blue Herons can swim. I saw two of them in a lake and thought they were struggling, but nope, just out for a swim. Huh! 🪶
Who needs a spot of fall color today? Here's a cheery little Worm-Eating warbler hanging out on a sea grape branch. 🪶
