I'm a Dad and this is gobbledygook to me.

NOT ALL DADS
Attention: before clocking in at the Dad Factory today, all dads are required to watch The War on Drugs w/ Kurt Vile covering "Country Feedback." I know we're all busy, but this is mandatory. Thanks. www.youtube.com/watch?v=egxq...

Football isn't basketball. I'm not saying a great non power 6 vs a Top 10 power 6 is a 16 vs 1... but it's a lot closer to that than an 9 vs 8.

A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)

Ok here's my "hot" take. I didn't particularly like this as a kid and it's only grown to mild enjoyment over time. I don't care for the whole "kids with ennui" tone, don't particularly root for Charlie Brown, and think "Christmas is too commercial" is trite

Also since I'm apparently in a "movies from 1933 doing interesting things" mode after yesterday's Ginger Rogers pig latin singing, here's Bing nailing "Temptation"

White Christmas (1954)

I'm a sucker for this movie. Having an older Dad meant my cultural touchstones were not 20+ years in the past but 40+ so I have an affinity for older media.

I'll admit this is basically a classic golden age Hollywood musical in the paint by numbers way.

This was such a stupid argument. Bus ridership has not declined much over time. So it's walkers/bikes vs being driven. The increase in kids living a mile+ away from school? ~25% The increase in kids getting driven to school? ~25%

But hey it's culture bc I'm older and I've gotta log my complaints

For your non-Christmas viewing pleasure today, something I caught last night. Ginger Rogers singing the original version of "We're in the Money" complete with a verse with a different melody in pig latin filmed partially in extreme close-up because why not? www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bm9h...

It's a Wonderful Life

Much like A Christmas Carol - every year watch for me. It's just a good movie. A lot depends on how much you like Stewart as George & I can see if you were seeing him 3-4 times a yr in various movies how you might get tired of him but we aren't and you want to root for him

On this last week before Christmas at work I'm going to go over the 12 most shared Christmas things we watch because I don't know, I feel like it. It'll be chronologically so this isn't best to worst or anything.

First up A Christmas Carol in it's various forms first adapted for movies in 1901

Watched it. Great. However needed a half-hour on his Columbo appearance.
The PBS Dick Van Dyke documentary is absolutely chock full of rare clips.

And *everything* is in its proper aspect ratio, not stretched, which is absolutely VITAL in any documentary about film or TV history.

This is smart, well-researched, thoroughly reported, and absolutely engaging. Watch it!
PBS celebrates Dick Van Dyke’s 100th birthday tonight.

STARRING DICK VAN DYKE premieres 9pm ET. And you can watch for free on PBS, PBS.org, or the PBS app.

Better yet, donate $5/month and get access to a wealth of great shows on PBS Passport.

That really good spot? Having a 1.35 million dollar salary
Can confirm that RHP Josiah Gray agreed to a 1 year, $1.35 million deal to avoid arbitration. @jeffpassanbot.bsky.social was first.

Earlier this week, POBO Paul Toboni said that Gray, a 2023 all-star, was “in a really good spot” to be ready to go for spring training.

This damn movie killed Diane Keaton through karmic storyline symmetry and you won't convince me otherwise.

For the fourth straight year, the Nationals take a player in the Rule 5 Draft. This time around, it's Griff McGarry, a right-handed pitcher from the Philadelphia Phillies.

Catching Home Alone bc of course and I like how the movie ends with his family coming home and after a couple minutes of talking to him immediately leave him completely alone again.

"Well sorry we left you alone for days and we want to hear all about it but you know, luggage to unpack"
December 10, 2025 at 2:31 AM
We're in a time where technology & release schedules have presented the public with a real choice - theater vs home - and people who like going to the movies and grew up having everyone have to do it their way are having a hard time finding out it might not be an opinion shared by the majority

Also after every goal, for it to be officially counted the scoring player must stop, look at the camera and say "that's another Madri Missle!". This is for player welfare.
News: Every 2026 World Cup match will feature two "hydration breaks," no matter the weather.

Each half will pause for exactly three minutes midway through.

It's a player welfare measure. It also has sporting & commercial implications.

2026 World Cup to feature three-minute hydration breaks in every half throughout tournament
Every game will pause for three minutes in the middle of each half, which will essentially split the match into quarters.

Look the voters (players or writers) are still BA HR RBI guys and essentially think D falls into three categories “Best ever?” “DH / iron glove” “everyone else

There’s no stat they use to hone in on the difference between a great fielder and a bad one.

My problem with the CFB playoff (and ALL playoffs) is that no one really cares about finding the BEST team, but everyone completely acts like that's what comes out of it and what the point is.

Who cares which not the best team is added or left out?

Caught the end of the Bills Christmas movie and ok having Joey Pants and Steve Schirripa as Bills Mafia members is more clever than they needed to be.

Also always appreciate seeing Abraham Benrubi.
