I am all kinds of geekiness.
Pinned
Intro for newskis: I'm a Weird Old Lady and a giant nerd. I read a lot, I work in a library, I love horror and fantasy and science fiction, I knit and spin and I have approximate knowledge of many things.
(Yes, I am also the same Harmonyfb from the bird site and Livejournal. My horror is eternal.)
:flings self dramatically onto couch:

WHY am I forced to work instead of lying supine reading more books? Why must I put on grown-up clothes and go to work and TALK to PEOPLE like some kind of m-f ADULT? #LibraryLife

30 min left until the gates of the underworld yawn wide & release the terror known as #HorrorWatch!

Tonight's film is the 1966 "An Angel For SATAN". Alas, we can guarantee that the film will not live up to promises made in the title. BUT-it stars Barbara Steele, which will cover any shortcoming.

I snuck out tonight to pick up Manly Man's Giftmas present; I'm not going to say what it is b/c he sometimes logs in to Bsky, but just know that it made a small local vendor VERY happy indeed.

Now the challenge is to not spoil it because I am so excited to give it to him!

Trying to decide between shirts for my boychild. Can y'all help? Here are the two designs - which one is cooler? Are they both lame & my old ass just doesn't see it? I need data.

Apparently, our new tree lights have a Trans Pride setting. It has the dual purpose of supporting our friends AND making steam come out my mother’s husband’s ears. Win-Win.

Jury’s still out on whether it has Lesbian or Bi light schemes for our kids. #Xmas

So for #HorrorWatch tonight, we're watching a new-ish (for certain values of new) flick with a stellar (see what I did there?) cast: "Sphere" (1998). Directed by Barry Levinson, starring Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone, Samuel L. Jackson, & Huey Lewis (from "Huey Lewis & the News", wtf?)

I went Xmas shopping at our local indie bookstore today, and I bought NOTHING for myself.

:bows elaborately: Thank you, you’re too kind. I credit my mother’s voice in my head, saying “We’re not here to buy for us”.

Happy Ritual Sacrifice with Pie day to all who celebrate! On my way to start the yeast rolls & start prepping the fried okra. Hope you all eat yourselves into a beautiful nap where everything feels right with the universe for at least an hour. #Thanksgiving

Finished a lovely Magic Academia novel - "Higher Magic" by Courtney Floyd. The kind of Academia where you're a grad student who screwed the pooch on your 1st magical dissertation defense, & now have to rework your thesis & oops, you have a skull narrating your inner monologue now. #Booksky

Received a pearl-clutching email today about Sarah Maas books (They’re full of pron! And they’re in the YA section*!) 🙄

So proud of myself that I didn’t respond, as I would have *started* with “You’re six years behind that curve, dumbass.”

*Note: Only the YA-appropriate ones are in YA.

Caught sight of the news, so I read three books and I'm about to eat my weight in leftover Halloween candy, so..that's how my weekend is going to go.

Let me tell you about this week's books:
Platform Decay by @marthawells.com (May '26): Murderbot + Three; shenanigans ensue
Wolf Worm by @tkingfisher.com (Mar '26): Gothic botflies & other parasites :shudder:
Of Monsters & Mainframes by @barbaratruelove.bsky.social: If Universal monsters in space.

Tonight's #Horrorwatch is a cheese-fest of mighty proportions - "Galaxy of Terror" (1981). It's an Alien rip-off which stars Erin Moran (the kid sister on "Happy Days"). I predict much snark will be enjoyed!

Be there or be square (and mute that hashtag!)

Guess who just got approved for an ARC of “Platform Decay”?!?!

Omg, omg #books

Watched del Toro's Frankenstein last night. Hm. Found Isaac's characterization to be interesting (compared to other films.) Mia Goth was a little flat as Elizabeth, but I can't tell if that was a directorial choice or acting choice. Clearly a loving adaptation. #Movies

This month's hair is Arctic Fox's "Wrath" (bright red) layered over faded "Ginger Flare" with black ends. I'm hopeful this will not turn out hot pink as red sometimes does on my hair. :crosses fingers: Guess we'll see.

Half an hour til the best time of the week: #Horrorwatch! Tonight we're watching the cosmic horror of "Altered States" (1980). Stars a very young William Hurt & is directed by Ken Russell ("Lisztomania", "The Devils", & a little rock opera you may have heard of: "Tommy".) Be there or be square!

I didn’t manage a spooky movie (too much people-ing yesterday; I needed quiet.) But I did finally read “Crypt of the Moon Spider” & that was super creepy! #Books
