Why can't the Democrats break the rules if the Republicans are going to break the rules? Why can't we all be criminals if criminals exist? It's not that there's an empirical difference; it's just that one side has chosen democracy and the other has chosen to pursue power at all costs
And here's a classic...they didn't "disappear" into "warehouses"; of course premodern life is complex and requires thoughtful study, but it's not like convents and other monastic foundations were prisons. Far from it...

Nuns as Artists by Jeffrey Hamburger - Hardcover
Scholarship is a powerful tool for changing how people think, plan, and govern. By giving voice to bright minds and bold ideas, we seek to foster understanding and drive progressive change.

It's not nearly enough, though. 42% of the country is watching everything happen and thinking "this is fine"
Except it's not actually exaggerated...
card-carrying art historian here to say it was not, in fact, "appropriate for the time of Abraham Lincoln"
And speaking as a white-passing brown person, um, people of color can also be fully on board with white supremacy as long as they aren't personally affected
Or if the money only goes to the 1.31 million active duty troops, that's... just under $100 per person, after a one-month shutdown. How is this not a major headline in its own right?
Aren't there something like 2.5 million people in the U.S. military? I mean yes, the impunity with which they break the law is the real focus here, but I feel like we're not talking enough about the fact that this is only $50 per person
Yeah. Lies have countless offshoots and variations, like a hydra, but there's only one actual reality. And that puts us facts people at a huge disadvantage
And we don't know who they are and what quid pro quo has been offered. It's all hideously, horribly corrupt
If the children are teenagers they will be fine with it. Their worldview will always make room for teen girls to be written off as sluts and powerful men to be forgiven because "nobody's perfect"
I, for one, enjoy the idea of the global elite being occasionally forced to use a port-a-potty
Yeah, we basically shop at Tony Soprano's Costco
Sending solidarity from NJ!!
We wanted *a violent riot* to be a prison sentence. These things -- "doubting the integrity of an election and suggesting investigations" vs. "doubting the integrity of an election and attacking DC with a mob" -- are not the same. (I don't doubt it myself, but the distinction still matters.)
My partner got one on FB today, showing guys with swords drawn, apparently lost in a misty forest. The message was basically "are you a manchild who watches too much Game of Thrones? Join ICE!" (Partner was pretty annoyed at the algorithm for this insult 😂)
I might add the classic line, "if you think migrants should be treated with dignity, they all live at your house now" 🙄
But if you narrow the focus to just Biden: he was a traditionalist who wasn't going to change foreign policy. Israel is a US ally, and there's never been much political will to challenge the status quo.
The traditional line is that it's the only true democracy in the Middle East. Whether either the US or Israel are true democracies right now is a bitter question, but the evolution has played out hand in hand, keeping the alliance steady. Many Americans also support Israel for ideological reasons
Yes, honestly the idea of any bottom at all whatsoever is giving me life
