Recovering academic, recovering film critic, taker of long walks, recounted at RamblingHank.com.
Ticket secured for tomorrow to see Jay Kelly at @musicboxtheatre.bsky.social. MB is consistently a great movie-going experience. The audiences are there because they love movies, and behave accordingly. And the Music Box shows actual prints whenever they can, which is awesome. This is a Chicago gem.

I'm surprised at how little I've seen people remark on how bad Michael Wolff looks in all this. He's advising Epstein the sex trafficker on how great Epstein's leverage might be with a Presidential candidate.

Time to get real: Does anyone really throw out “expired” spices? I’m looking at my spice rack, and if I threw out all the half-full bottles of turmeric and paprika and whatnot that was more than two years old, I’d have to blow a couple hundred bucks on new spices. Deep thoughts for a Tuesday.

Sad to hear that Terence Stamp has died. I fondly recall talking to him, and how he used that hypnotic voice and his piercing stare to great effect. Recalling how he enjoyed making Adventures of Priscilla, he made the song title "Shake Your Groove Thing" sound like a seduction. I think I blushed.

In my time in my current job (almost 4yrs) I’ve lost count of the account reps I’ve outlasted for things like website hosting, Constant Contact, GiveSmart, etc. I guess that should be reassuring? I’ve seen ‘em all and,my dear, I’m still here.

Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry really had an out-on-the-edge sensibility I love. The recurring "Tony and Control" bits are bizarre, awkward, stilted, and f-ing brilliant. www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDPp...

Day 13: Farmhand Hank and Lady Anne
Askrigg to Hawes, 6 miles, 410 feet of ascent This was a mild day of walking, punctuated with one fun episode when I helped a farmer. Six miles with a third of the elevation of yesterday’s wa…

still hiking in Yorkshire. I made a dumb mistake that led to an adventure, which involved another dumb mistake. Spoiler: I survived. ramblinghank.com/2025/06/06/d...
Day 11: Lord Hank’s Way
Grassington to Buckden, 12.5 miles, 1591 feet of ascent (note: both numbers estimated due to path ‘detour’) I made a dumb mistake, and it made today better. As I’ve mentioned befo…

Day 8: Intermezzo
On travel between trails, on accommodations, and on revisiting old haunts. I’ve been writing this blog over a lot of walks (this is my 122nd post!), and one of the challenges is to keep it in…
