How can we prepare for shocks? A good start is by collecting data on past events.

Centre researcher Emmy Wassénius leads the project Shock Tracker the first prototype of a united database of social-ecological shocks.

Someone lives in the real tree! It's full of walnuts that squirrels were snacking on.
This is like an ad for why tech can't replicate nature. From my local park, we're in a drought, and it's still nice and shady under the real tree...
Reminiscing about the fun field work that led to this paper. So grateful to everyone who was involved!

I crunched the numbers on my not-very-scientific survey of why people don't plant native plants.

210 people answered this Q. I read through the comments & categorized concerns into 10 categories.

Most common reasons were
1) Lack of Knowledge
2) No Time
3) Money
4) No good source for native plants

Can we expand the narrative and definition of human development to include flourishing with nature? Our new paper in Nature explores such a vision, and outlines a metric - the Nature Relationship Index - to sit alongside the Human Development Index.

It's an honour to be part of the authorship team for this new paper introducing @socses.bsky.social to the world! Being part of the team kickstarting the early career hub has felt so rewarding, especially meeting so many others around the world working on linked social-ecological research

Work weeks like last one are a dream. As part of the Beijer Institute's Young Scholar Program, I got to meet with brilliant scholars from around the world working on theories, models and cases to better understand, prevent and adapt to shocks in an increasingly turbulent world.
A sweet lil memory at least 😅 Actually Katja and I were chatting today about trees and seasons and it reminded me of when you and I posted Fall colour updates on Twitter, we should start that back up for spring! 😊
A dream to work with these two! This was us the day Katja submitted the paper, at PECS III in the Mont Saint Hilaire Biosphere 😊🌳
From UNESCO sites in 3 countries, Katja Malmborg, Caroline Seiferth & I propose place-based identities and senses of belonging as potential deep leverage points for transformative action-oriented research for sustainability. Check out our new paper: shorturl.at/b5rF9
So cool to see SES researchers calling in from around the world for today's official launch of the @socses.bsky.social Early Career Hub! 🥳
Some of the most rewarding parts of doing a PhD has been working with this group!
In Québec this week for the @nserc-resnet.bsky.social AGM, which will be later this week at a true beauty of a spot in Jouvence, QC.

Leading up to that, I'm meeting with lovely friends & coworkers to prep for workshops, writing retreats, and presentations 🥰
A beautiful final official annual gathering of @nserc-resnet.bsky.social this week. So much cool science coming out of this network. I'm so grateful for this community 💚
Spent Earth day with friends from @nserc-resnet.bsky.social discussing how research networks can support careful social-ecological science from an early career perspective
Join us on the 29th!
Join the launch of the SocSES Early-Career Hub 🎉
