I pointed out on the main thread that "bayou bred" is kind of a slur. My wife was born poor in coastal LA and is a brilliant progressive.

Hey, my wife is bayou-bred and is one of the smartest, most progressive people I know! She was raised in trailer park and is now a fabulous novelist and professor!

I get what you were saying, though--she has the same opinion about many of the folks she grew up with. But they're not all the same.
