the Gundam Card Game accessories. I got an official deck box that came with the Strike EX Base and Lacus Clyne EX Resource tokens. I don't really like the way Lacus Clyne looks in this art, but I'd been looking for the Strike EX base, haha. Glad I was able to finally get them, and for free at that!
misplayed a lot. He maybe could've won if he had played his cards better, but I was able to take advantage and win pretty handily.
So I ended up going 3-1 and somehow getting 3rd place despite my awful tiebreakers. That meant I got some store credit, but I also won one of the raffles for
him out of cards before putting him on a clock with my attackers. He hit two copies of Amuro as his third and fourth shields, but it didn't matter; after all, I wouldn't have given him those shields if it did matter. Won the last round against green/white Wing Zero; he drew very well, but also
I didn't have any way to gain card advantage and he dropped four link units in succession, so I couldn't catch up. Got a bye for the second round, so I just went around watching other matches. Won the third round against blue/red Cyber-Newtype; I was able to hold off his aggro pretty well and run
Went to the usual Thursday night Gundam locals. There were only 13 players tonight, but that's unsurprising since the new set drops tomorrow. I was playing my blue/white Freedom Rebuild deck and my Zeon Aggro friend was as well.
Lost the first round to red/white Neo Zeon Blockers;
and apparently there was an additional special prize for 1st place. They gave me this HG model kit for the Gundam from the Netflix series, which I didn't even know was a thing. I guess it's going to go on the pile of unopened model kits I still haven't built, haha.
but I was constantly threatening lethal, so he couldn't actually put me on a clock by breaking shields. He ended up decking out, but based on the cards left in my deck, I would've won regardless.
So I ended up going 3-0 and getting 1st place. I pulled some pretty decent cards from my prize packs,
but we did continue playing afterwards since it was the last round anyways. We both got down to a point where we had 6 cards left in deck with him barely hanging on with one shield, but he was going to deck-out first, so he had to play the aggressor. He was able to stabilize decently well,
Won the last round against my friend in the mirror match; I had a very strong start while he had a more normal start, so I applied a ton of pressure early on without losing in card advantage. Our game went to time, and I won at the end of the three turns since I was so far ahead on shields,
but he played a linked Sword Strike early on and had to keep bouncing my damaged piloted units when he attacked with it, so I got to keep reusing my pilots and gaining tempo when I would clear his other units. I eventually ran him out of cards and won in the late game, as this deck does.
Won the first round against green/white Wing Zero; he had kind of an awkward opening whereas I had a pretty solid one, so I was able to press my advantage and put him on the defensive the entire game. Won the second round against green/white Wing Zero; I didn't have as strong of a start,
Went to the usual Wednesday night Gundam locals. It was slow again since this was the last week before the new set drops, so there were only 11 players in attendance tonight. I was on blue/white Freedom Rebuild and so was my Zeon Aggro friend, as usual.
Now that I've experienced a bit of Final Fantasy draft, I can definitely see why it's considered fun. It's kind of neat to have reprints of iconic old cards randomly appear. I had Fatal Push and Light Up the Stage in my deck, and there were plenty of other bonus sheet cards floating around, haha.
I was able to win pretty quickly with all of the card advantage he was getting me, allowing me to take the match 2-1.
Last round was against the player who organized the draft; they were on RG Landfall. I was able to aggro them down pretty handily with all of the Wizard burn and won the match 2-0.
an advantage. They were on UG Lands Matter and took the first game with their big vanillas since I barely drew any removal, but I sided in more and won the second game. In the third game, I cast Dark Confidant on turn 2, eliciting a "WTF?" from my opponent; they didn't know Bob was in the set, haha.
First round was against the player who was actually experienced with Final Fantasy draft; he was on WB Reanimator. He was scared since I drafted Wizards, and rightfully so, since I won 2-0.
Second round was against another veteran player, but this one wasn't familiar with the set, so I had a bit of
Final Fantasy before.
My pack one pick one was Vincent Valentine, and I drafted mostly black since it was pretty open and had the good removal. I ended up adding red as the second color and making a decent (16-land) BR Wizard deck, which is apparently one of the strong themes from the set in limited
One of the regulars at the mahjong club has been wanting to run a for-fun MTG draft with the Final Fantasy packs they've been holding onto, and we finally got the time and players to do that tonight. There were 6 players total, half of which were less experienced, and only one who had drafted
So unfortunately I only ended up going 2-2; pretty unlucky, but it happens. My Wing Zero and Freedom Rebuild friends went 1-3, but my Zeon Aggro friend (using my Freedom Rebuild deck) went 3-1, so that was good. I at least pulled decently from my participation packs, so that was also good, haha.
opponent was on, I had no trouble winning. Lost the third round against blue/red Cyber-Newtype; got high-rolled on again and lost on turn 6 without being able to do anything. Won the last round against my Wing Zero friend; she had no real early-game, and I had answers to all of her later plays.
below average hand and got destroyed by my opponent's perfect curve out. Won the second round against the new blue/white "Freedom Blockers" deck; it's really just the Freedom Rebuild deck except it uses Sword Strike and Corsica Base instead of Michaelis and Archangel, so once I figured out what my
Went to the usual Thursday night Gundam locals. This time, all three of the friends I've been lending decks to showed up for the tournament, haha. There were 18 players total, and I was running blue/white Freedom Rebuild as usual.
Lost the first round against blue/red Cyber-Newtype; I redrew into a
which won them the game. Won the last round in the mirror against my friend; he let his Freedoms die too easily, so I was able to take control of the game after getting rid of both of those.
So I ended up going 2-1 and getting 4th place, which is alright. I didn't pull much from my prize pack though
the match-up seemed pretty free since it's just a budget aggro deck. Lost the second round against blue/red Cyber-Newtype; despite a subpar opening, I managed to pin them down and get rid of all of their cards, but then they top-decked A Show of Resolve to draw Banshee Destroy Mode and Marida,
