Asking for the name of the company someone is contacting you from when trying to hire you, is the most BASIC of information and shouldn't be withheld. If it is, this is a HUGE red flag.

And asking for payment upfront, from a company you don't know is not only ok, but recommended. We've all read -

I got approached for a job, and because I requested that they include that my work nor any work on the project will be fed through any GenAI, they are assuming I use AI and it’s a red flag to ask that on a contract.
