Yeah it is kinda insane that the animated projects are the closest we’ll ever get ti self contained stories that do all the work you would hope. Like i would absolutely rather watch “the batman” than try to understand all the lore and setup required to understand the death of the family shit

Man. It stinks cuz ya know i love the long halloween and year one and the animated series and stuff like that but there is a part of me that would love a comprehensive Batman comic with a driven voice and message that captures the beginning middle and end.

I tried checking out the absolute Batman stuff and to me it just felt like a half measure. Like trying to build up a new character while still making sure u can call it batman. It all feels kinda flat as a result imo.

I will say the ~classics~ of batman are the exception to me but mainly cuz I find them to be (comparatively) low stakes detective stories that are much more digestible

The worst is comics fan who pretend this isnt a major hurdle. Like i really dont have much interest in some alt take on an established mythos i have cursory knowledge of. Id much rather experience a story designed to be experienced with 0 prior knowledge lol.

The current roster of comic heroes feels forever set in this structure but i would love to see these major publishers like Marvel and DC attempt some kind of new venture modeled after manga publications . Both as a weekly collection and as a venue for contained stories driven by a singular voice.

Ive been watching a lot of those “x run EXPLAINED” or “x character FULL HISTORY” youtube vids while working and I’ve decided that there are too many realms and dimensions and universes in marvel like at a certain point nothing matters ever and anything that does matter is too abstract to understand
