Well fuck, Linux might have snuck its way onto your PC while you weren't looking.
I still recommend the hoodie and sunglasses, though. Style is important.
But I also feel like there's this impression that "installing Linux" means putting on a hoodie and sunglassess and hacking into the Matrix, when it's really just "plug in thumbdrive, reboot"
Fair. I remember "re-install your OS from scratch every year" was basically just how you kept DOS/Win95 machines working, so that was just a skill you developed by being near computers.
Yeah, and sadly anyone who says Gimp, Inkscape, and Darktable are suitable replacements for Adobe are either ambitiously optimistic, or coming from a *very* specific workflow.
But if anything approaching "graphic design" is in your computer-touching workflow, then yeah...maybe not
I mean, I get your frustration with smug "why don't you just...", replies, but I also think the pervasive idea that Linux is turbo greybeard-only hacker shit is a little dated.

Grab a thumbdrive and google "Install Mint" if you want, it's less intimidating than you're probably imagining.
Nobody:
My Brain: "Hey there are probably flat-earthers who are also Columbus-day apologists"
Time to get winter coats back out of the closet for the season and that means free pocket candy!
It's weird to me that so many people turn on the Steam and Discord features that just tells everybody on the Internet what application you're using on your computer.

What is the supposed value of this?

I still believe that the thing it's *trying* to do, building a social media platform this isn't owned by anybody, is a great idea.

But that makes it really susceptible to becoming a place that only ever talks about itself and what its trying to do.
My specific brands of geeky interests intersect well with the types of people who use Mastodon, but the toxically congratulatory circle-jerking is very real.
I...
Goddammit not a word of this is wrong
I'm pleased with myself how much of this list I can comprehend

For real I actually do still like/use Mastodon, but the culture has a pretty serious gate-keeping problem, and I've largely stopped advocating for it.
Once you start federating with other instances, people from across the fediverse can start criticizing your tagging and CW etiquette, too!
And every "neat, AI helped me create a spreadsheet" has about a dozen "AI just helped grifters steal someone's life savings", which isn't a great ratio.
Tubifier.
I always suspected that's how it worked.
