We owe it to our children (and to each other) to be present, to stay active, and to push for the changes needed so that safety is not the exception but the expectation.
Our hearts are heavy with grief, and it feels impossible to speak of rhythm and safety at home without also naming the absence of it in the wider world.
As a mother, it's unbearable to witness such loss and not feel it in my own bones-to know that while I write about safety and rhythm at home, other mothers are facing an unimaginable void.
But even as I explore these everyday rhythms, the news of the shooting that took the lives of two children presses on my heart.
This week's newsletter is live. I've been writing about the small, ordinary shifts that shape our days, and how recalibration is never just a one-time thing but an ongoing practice.

New piece on the accumulated weight of being responsible for small humans while your own reserves run low. Why some seasons just resist neat conclusions and that's perfectly human.

Sent this week's letter about school starting and that particular quality of morning quiet after drop-off. A day behind schedule, which feels fitting when writing about learning to let go of control.

Newsom: "He doesn't play by a different set of rules. He doesn't believe in the rules. As a consequence, we need to disabuse ourselves of the way things have been done. It's not enough to just hold hands, have a candlelight vigil, talk about way the world should be...we have got to meet fire w/fire"

Early Riser, might you be?
Want a spectacle for free?
Before sunrise you will see
Two bright stars — planets they be.

The brightest one is Venus.
Outshining Jupiter’s light.
Catch both before they’re consumed
By all of morning twilight.
Still trying to find more of my people here —

That little dumpling is doing some real emotional heavy lifting. 🥟❤️
Mirror or not, still a win just being out there 🌧️🌲
We added a new member to the family, she chooses to sleep in the sink.

A new letter coming tomorrow, it’s about ache, and fear, and the impossible love, and letting go.

I've been quiet here while writing and processing. Turns out while everyone's posting supply lists, I needed to write about the harder part: learning to let go. New story about the back-to-school feelings nobody talks about.

Almost Ready: On the Emotions Behind Back-to-School — gris.
While everyone talks about backpacks and supply lists, I’m still learning how to let go. A back-to-school story for the not-quite-ready.

Today's writing: type three words, kiddo request, type two more, diaper change, repeat forever. New letter about the quiet rebellion of good enough.
