while im on hot takes i post all of my REAL opinions to bluesky. so far nodkrai has been really underwhelming for me . i think the characters are just fine and the quest is good but the exploration is some of the worst genshin has done. it reminds me of fontaine release and not in a good way

EXACTLY ME TOO!!! i loved mavuika ever since her design dropped and the motorcycle is soooo cool (clearly inspired by himeko in their previous game, cool attacks and moveset, etc) it was such a good idea and executed really well. i love her as an archon so much

no problem!! im glad it was clear what i mean ToT obviously i never want to come off as racist or culturally insenstive but it's really frustrating that natlan is basically impossible to have a nice conversation about. and yeah the fanservice thing is so weird to me... no idea why now it's an issue

the tldr is basically that i agree that it should be and i have a lot of criticisms of how genshin handles all it's representation - however it's not nearly bad ENOUGH so people (particularly white people who virtue signal without ever listening to poc about it) just kept making up things to hate

fanservice was and is just another word that gets tossed around when people don't like a character with no real meaning. varesa's moveset is based on REAL wrestlers, whereas mizuki and escoffier who have revealing animations and designs are completely overlooked (not that i think either are bad)

the varesa side comment was in reference again to all the people who thought escoffier was a "return to form" for genshin just because she was white and blonde so they didn't have to pretend to hate her. a lot of people's main issue with natlan was also "fanservice" (think varesa, citlali, etc)

backlash that i kept seeing about how natlan was "too advanced" compared to other nations (ie mavuikas motorcycle) when it's both explained in game why she has it and it is also seen frequently in real life that indigenous people with access to certain resources can invent things on their own

for a lot of people though this doesn't matter because they personally dislike natlan for other reasons and feel like they need to join the crowd and disregard it as racist without doing any cultural research or acknowledging any part of the characters or story. this post was about some specific-

and in my opinion again i think natlan isn't trying to represent specific cultures accurately, it's meant to be celebrating nations who are outside of western and eastern influence (such as with a high indigenous population, hence africa and southern america)

most people say it's that natlan combines a lot of cultural elements but in my opinion this is something genshin does with every single nation. (fontaine for example is based on british, french, italian, spanish, etc, and mondstadt draws from germany, switzerland, and many parts of northern europe)

it's bad at representing culture. i don't want to speak on how specific people and cultures felt badly about natlan's cultural representation and i agree that it's not particularly good at representing one group of people, but noone can ever really pin down what they think is "bad representation"

this is kind of a complicated question in my opinion because in theory yes but in practise it's not. (so this might be a long response sorry) the backlsh of natlan designs is generally twofold - that they all have pale skin (which i agree sucks and in my opinion genshin's main issue) and that -

henshin is the jp word for a transformation, its mostly used in tokusatsu and mahou shoujo transformations ^_^
