The Greens requested an interview on the Laura Kuenssberg Show with Zack Polanski when he was elected leader, but were denied, with a promise to interview him during Green conference instead.

This was then scrapped citing the Manchester synagogue attack. Polanski is both Jewish and from Manchester

Disgraceful. All thoughts with those affected. Prejudice, hatred, and violence against anyone - or their property or places of worship - because of their identity is abhorrent and everyone in our country should be safe to practice their religion in peace. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The Assisted Dying Bill has passed its Third Reading in the Commons. We’re in Parliament Square celebrating this step forward for compassion and dignity
A question today from Green Humanist President @sianberry.bsky.social has elicited an encouraging response about the future permissibility of Humanist marriage in England and Wales 🤞
A big day for the campaign to permit assisted dying, with the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill facing its third reading in the Commons later. Our honorary president, @sianberry.bsky.social, has spoken in favour of the Bill and her speech can be watched here:

Last night's All Party Parliamentary Humanist Group mtg served as a powerful reminder that freedom of expression is far from being a settled victory, both abroad & here in the UK.

A great speech by @sianberry.bsky.social making among others the point that the cost of many of the proposed additional clauses (mainly proposed by opponents) that present as safeguards threaten to make dying people's final weeks a nightmare of onerous bureaucracy and constraint.
On the evening of May 22nd, we are hosting an online talk about assisted dying from national assisted dying campaigner, @nathan-stilwell.bsky.social. It is sensitive and highly pertinent debate that our speaker is well placed to explore. Register to attend for free at: tinyurl.com/assisted-dyi...

Please keep this important service in mind if you ever come across someone trapped in a high control religion 👇
Leaving a high-control religious group can be one of the most painful experiences anyone can face. That's where our service #FaithtoFaithless comes in. We help people leaving high-control religious groups. Our beautiful animation – launching today – brings these deeply personal stories to life. 🧵

I wish this service had been available when I escaped the Jehovah Witnesses 28 years ago. It would have saved me a huge amount of pain and self-destructive behaviour, which nearly cost me my life and the peace of those around me.

Acts of genocide are not a thing of the past, far less racism and hatred. Please therefore join this online Holocaust Memorial Day event, hosted by the Jewish Greens, in the early evening of next Wednesday. We are one of the co-sponsors.

It is deeply alarming that an MP is calling for the introduction of new blasphemy laws. Concerningly, the Prime Minister offers no defense of free expression.

MPs should uphold values which are foundational to our society - not seek to dismantle them.

A very significant step forward for the important and sensitive issue of permitting assisted dying in England and Wales. The Bill was supported by all four GPEW MPs at its second reading today.
Results of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill vote at Second Reading are in:

330 AYE
275 NO

For the first time in history, British MPs have voted in favour of the principle of assisted dying.

Now follows months of line-by-line scrutiny at Committee Stage.
We’re at a packed Parliament Square rally in support of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, ahead of its 2nd Reading later.

Humanists have campaigned to permit assisted dying for over a century. We urge support for the Bill, to uphold compassion, choice, and dignity.
We are a new group for non-religious members of the Green Party of England and Wales. We exist to develop GPEW policies on secular issues and to promote the GPEW within the humanist movement. GPEW members wishing to join or to get involved should contact [email protected].
Our huge thanks to @andrewcopson.bsky.social for speaking to us in Manchester earlier and our congratulations to Sian Berry MP for being unanimously elected our first Honorary President 💐
