in my ideal dbd match the killer just kind of forgets I'm there. I'm strolling around, I'm doing my generators, I'm sneaking in to pull my teammates off the hooks and heal them but generally everyone else deals with the big scary man trying to kill us.

they don't have a monopoly so much as they have a network advantage, and even with a monopoly you can't just do whatever you want. GW makes a nonessential hobby product and they're still subject to capitalist structures so they must have SOME amount of market data guiding their decisions.

it's a shame, it feels like part and parcel of some of the edges i love in the Sky games that get sanded off as the franchise goes on for way less complicated storytelling. you can really feel them simplifying Renne down to fit her into the Anime Daughter box as earlier as the very next game.

even if you're a space marines player you can end up unsatisfied because there's multiple chapters that are technically unique factions but really just ultramarines with a unique unit or two and an upgrade sprue lol.

I don't think any of these designs are -bad- per se and it wouldn't be notable if every faction had as large a range as space marines, it's just that the distribution is so lopsided.
