Spent the afternoon wrestling with the question of why shoe shops lace shoes in a way that no human being on the planet would ever lace them and how this makes it almost impossible to establish whether they actually fit.

@spyhistorian.bsky.social Pardon me asking out of the blue, but is there any evidence of an ‘Oxford 5’ (or Durham, StAndrews, etc)? I find it hard to believe that the Soviets wouldn’t try. Did they just strike gold at Cambridge and stop? It seems unlikely.
