Not a Marine - I'm a retired Navy officer. However, I know the Marines well.
Please go back and reread what I said.
Then read it again.
Then read about stop-loss. And ETS. And NOT from some other poster - who didn't serve.
He served 4 yrs active, and 4 yrs reserve.
No ban on tattoos in 2007, btw.

What should also not be difficult to acknowledge is that until we have walked someone else’s experience, judging it requires no small degree of humility and self awareness.
Throw into that a Bono’s requirement of having served in the Marines in your twenties.
