Trouble’s blowing in from the mainland — and it’s renewable.
Cue chaos, charm, and community politics in this witty, warm-hearted novel.
📚 An t-Eilean Dorcha by Gordon MacLeod is the perfect read for fans of Local Hero, The Shipping News, and beautifully odd small towns.

My 7th novel, ‘Proscription’, (2025) is about the Glencoe Massacre.
‘… in surroundings that are probably the most beautiful I have ever seen…, a part of God's creation, … his wrath was again being visited upon us, and I don't know why’: amzn.eu/d/egr4Td4
Whisky, appropriately enough given Isle of Raasay whisky, plays a prominent role in my humorous sixth novel from 2024, ‘Pods for Pigs’ which is set on the beautiful Isle of Raasay: amzn.eu/d/cA4BlQ1
‘You know, when you have no money, there just aren't any rules in society no more', remarked Mark trying to justify his position.
Quote from ‘Carrot Toppers’, my 2016 novel about austerity, set in the north west of England:

In my 2013 novel, ‘Beyond the Tree at Mamre’, Andrei Rublev’s ‘The Icon of the Trinity’, from the early 15th century, played a prominent role in the thoughts of Martin, the main character, underpinned the storyline and influenced the title of the novel: amzn.eu/d/c8oBHlm
In my novel, ‘Just a Little Drop More’, James a retired geologist drove through the small village of Sannox until he came to the large building and gate that lay opposite the wood by the shore, and which heralded the beginning of the path up the Glen.
This is the scene: amzn.eu/d/aToc9Zh
In my second novel, ‘76’, published in 2009, John and his cousin walk to the village of Hallaig on Raasay. This is the scene they see on part of that walk, and John turns to Murdo and says, “I mean, you are here, the MacLeods are still here, in Hallaig”.
“Hugh and Murdoch watched intently as two of the men jumped aboard a small boat moored at the harbour”.
(Quote from ‘Silicon Glen’, my first novel written in 1995/96 amzn.eu/d/gQQIShv).
This is the very harbour in Brodick where that scene is set.
An t-Eilean Dorcha (The Dark Island) is against the industrialisation of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, and beyond. Get your copy here: amzn.eu/d/6dVsjEG
From California’s turbine scars to Scotland’s Highlands & Islands, my novel, ‘An t-Eilean Dorcha’ exposes wind farm betrayal—peatlands gone, loss of wildlife, locals ignored & irreplaceable landscapes lost. Buy now: a.co/d/erBU6F2
Quite simply, this novel is a polemic against the industrialisation of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland (and elsewhere) through the development of large scale renewable energy projects:

Doing a talk about my work at Books-on-the-Walls in Chester on 7th February at 2pm.
Delighted to say Raasay Community Stores and Books on the Wall, Chester, (booksonthewalls.com) are both stocking some of my novels.
Both are more than just bookshops and are worth checking out.
A really nice write up back home from the Arran Banner today, the local paper on Arran, (which appeared in the Guinness Book of Records in 1984), about my new book of Plays. Many thanks to them. amzn.eu/d/5CacBof

Turbines, turbines everywhere! They call it green energy.
But on one small island, the “wind rush” threatens to blow life off course — including the people who live there. ‘An t-Eilean Dorcha (The Dark Island)’, is available on Amazon in paperback or for Kindle. a.co/d/hDHJhtE

The abject failure of politicians to listen to the concerns of the people amidst the wind rush, ignoring what may be the largest land movement since the 19th century, is unforgivable. All I can do is add my voice, hoping it helps people take notice: a.co/d/3y8QjY7

I love coming to the US, my favourite country, bar Scotland my home. As an independent author it’s difficult getting your work known, but people in the US might like the one I wrote as a polemic against #windfarms
