Agreed that Clare Daly and Mick Wallace are annoying as hell and Russian apologists. I’m not convinced that Connolly is just like them in her politics, but I do agree with the main point of the article you linked. She would do well to clarify the distance between herself and them politically

[7] This is another video that has cut through with the public. In some ways the public wants a president they’d be happy to let babysit their kids or have stay with them for the weekend. Thus the invasiveness. And they have to be figures of gravity & human rights activists!

I think we just have to move as fast as the media moguls in reorienting our consumption. Besides the ones you mentioned, Wired and 404 Media do some great investigative journalism. Democracy Docket is great for scoops on govt court cases. For now, I subscribe to some substack journalists too.

I finally looked up this song because I’ve heard it a bunch but never knew who it was. Turns out the first version of it was in German, and Canada was the only country in which the English version (released in 1983) got to #1 on the charts. #musicsky #80smusic

It's hard to help Americans left behind because so much of US identity is rooted in individualism. The average American conservative holds all three positions at once:

— Virtue signals about supporting US manufacturing
— Against raising the minimum wage
— Buys foreign imports because they're cheap

Trump's massive computer tariff exemption is forcing the US economy to gamble on AI—but more than that, it's a fundamental challenge to his trade philosophy

If free trade delivers such great results for the 1 sector still enjoying it, why subject the rest of us to protectionism?

In other words, the Trump administration is increasingly gambling the future of the American economy on AI. If they’re right, the US will capture the dual rewards of both coding the tools of the next economic revolution and owning the infrastructure that runs it. If they’re wrong, the US will be left with a bunch of distressed assets and will have dramatically underinvested in the projects that actually mattered. The large tariff exemption for computers is distorting the American economy in ways that could reshape the long-run future of the country.

Yet in the short run, it’s undeniable that the carveout has achieved its desired effect of accelerating America’s AI boom. The US is at the technological forefront of a rapidly expanding industry because of the free trade policies that this administration ostensibly despises. It’s just tragic that this privilege is not extended to businesses outside Silicon Valley.

I read an article about how “only” 2.5 million of the 5 million people newly covered under the public dental care plan have accessed it since last year and just want to say 1. That’s pretty great, actually! and 2. I just started seeing signs like this in the last month or two so yeah #dentalcare
