Last week we hosted a panel discussion on the power of cash, exploring different models of financial assistance. Direct, unconditional cash transfers for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness have a huge amount of potential to drive lasting change.

In Greater Manchester, nearly 6,000 families with over 8,500 children are in temporary accommodation rather than stable, secure, settled homes. Nearly 1,300 are in hostels or B&Bs.

The latest figures reveal local councils across the country spent a total of £2.8 billion on temporary accommodation in 2024/25.

We're investing too much in short-term, 'temporary' fixes, rather than lasting, sustainable solutions.
