It’s always been so obviously a squirrel that fell out of a tree and splatted into the wet cement. It annoyed that it got famous (years later!) and people said it was a rat. It’s way funnier to imagine a squirrel falling out of a tree.

One thing I like about mastodon is it has a private “note” field on a user’s profile to basically remind yourself of why you’re following them, etc. I never use it but often regret that I don’t, ha ha.
