A new Lancet seminar looked at the availability of treatment for alcohol use disorders as well as the barriers to providing such treatment. The seminar discussed increasing alcohol excise taxation to make treatment available.

While we welcome the key reference in the Political Declaration for the Global alcohol strategy; the Global Alcohol Action plan; the recommendation for taxation of alcohol; and the mention of the WHO Best Buys, this could have been a much stronger and clearer document for global public health.
The Southern African Alcohol Policy Alliance calls for stricter regulations on alcohol advertising, warning that exposure significantly increases the risk of underage drinking.
