Hello. I would like to celebrate the lost art of the compilation album as an eye and ear opening path into pleasures previously unknown. It might be a sampler, it might be a mix album but it's a person's singular vision of a particular genre or theme. Thread below of some favourites

wild 1st night of hanukkah, opening with neil young's "big crime" (& owning it!) plus a dreamier than usual appearance by @sunrauniverse.bsky.social horns, including a few they'd never played together (stunner "we travel the spaceways" into "let's be still"). setlist: jessejarnow.com/2025/12/yo-l...

Happy birthday to Mike Scott. Here's a joyous video of him singing his Waterboys classic The Whole of the Moon with a bunch of very excited schoolchildren in Clifden, County Galway, Ireland in 1987 youtu.be/pLAPOxpXGkU

This gloriously fluffy December moth looks dressed for the season, don't you think?

Today's #WinterWonder is one of the few moths you'll spot at this time of year. No Christmas dinner for these guys though – they don't actually feed, instead relying on energy reserves built up as a caterpillar.

MC50 at Glasgow in 2018, it was a show I often think about. A band enjoying themselves, and such a great sound. This LP is from that period... youtu.be/tfaJ_eaoEY4?...

Many years ago there was a friendly little charity shop in Sacriston, ladies knitting and making tea. Behind a curtain there was often a pile of LP's. A strange mixture, you might find Funkadelic, Shirley Collins, Teenage Fanclub, or Roger Miller... youtu.be/5VQ1l8KgGYY?...

One of my neighbors has been putting up these fish facts posters. All kinds of different fish, marine, freshwater, deep, shallow, all kinds. This is a good one. “Stg this real fish” took me out. Good work, neighbor.

A couple weeks ago we got a lovely note from someone on the other side of the country thanking us profusely for ILLing a book to them. Curious, we looked up the book they borrowed.

It would have cost $1,200 for them to purchase it.

ILL is one of the things I love most about libraries.
Requested a book through ILL over break. It arrived today. Libraries man.
