No reform (yet): Despite their expressed commitment to the aim of strengthening the jurisdiction of the #ICC over the #crimeofaggression, States Parties adopted a resolution today that only postpones the urgent need for reform to a special session in 2029 in New York.

Acts of aggression are on the rise, causing devastating harm to entire populations. Starting today, ICC member states have a unique opportunity to fix loopholes in the Court’s jurisdiction over the crime of aggression. At a Special Session in New York, they’ll review the legal framework.

3/3: GIPA's aggression experts have not heard any convincing legal arguments against the proposed harmonization amendment. This is purely a question of politics and political will.
2/3: GIPA strongly supports the harmonization amendment and calls on States Parties to take this opportunity to remove the restrictions on the #ICC's jurisdiction over the crime of aggression.
1/3: The #ICC's Assembly of States Parties is divided. Many States support the alignment of the Court's jurisdiction over the #crimeofaggression with its jurisdiction over other core crimes. A smaller number of States have opposed the proposed amendment of the Rome Statute.
