I just walked onto the House Floor to vote AGAINST HB 8, which triples STAAR testing for our kids in neighborhood public schools.

Students don’t want this. Parents don’t want this. Only the vendors who make $$ off the tests want this.

I’m proud to vote no.

HB 8, tripling STAAR testing days in our schools, unfortunately passed today.

BUT we scored a bipartisan win for kids when the House adopted my amendment to cut the number of high stakes tests to the federal requirement.

Let’s hope it sticks in the Senate!

The TEA created STAAR test is a disaster & NOW and Governor Abbott wants testing 3x per yr.

Don’t be fooled by the claim that HB 8 eliminates the STAAR. If anything, it replaces it with a big black hole that will suck all remaining joy out of the #txed classroom.

We need less testing in our neighborhood schools, not more.

Right now, Texas Republicans are shoving through redistricting maps BEFORE VOTING ON A SINGLE BILL to address the deadly flooding in Texas's Hill Country.

I tried to help them set their priorities straight and choose flood victims over political games.
