Sunday thought: The gap between "D365 F&O" (Finance) and "D365 CE" (CRM) is finally closing thanks to Dataverse & Dual Write.

The future is "One Dynamics." If you only know one side, start reading about the other.

Clean up your GitHub.

If you link it in your resume, I will click it. If I see a "Hello World" repo from 2019 and nothing else, it looks lazy. Pin your best 3 repositories to the top.

Power Pages (formerly Portals) feels like the Wild West right now. 🤠

Bootstrap 5 support is great, but the Liquid styling curve is still steep for low-code users. If you know HTML/CSS/Liquid, you can charge a premium right now.

Networking on LinkedIn:

Bad: "Hi, I need a job. Pls help."
Good: "Hi [Name], I saw your post about PCF controls. I recently built a similar grid component—curious how you handled the pagination?"

Add value before you ask for a favor.

The "Citizen Developer" saturation is real. There are thousands of people who can build a "Holiday Request App."

There are very few who can build an "ERP Integration with Error Handling." Move towards the hard technical problems if you want job security.

Salary Negotiation 101: Don't give a number first.

Recruiter: "What are your expectations?" You: "I'm looking for a competitive rate for a Senior Functional Consultant role. What is the budget range for this position?"

Make them anchor the negotiation.

Dataverse "Virtual Tables" are underrated.

Why replicate data from SQL into Dataverse if you don't have to? Virtual tables let you CRUD data sitting in SQL without moving it. Less storage cost, real-time access. Work smarter.

Red Flag in a job description: "Must be an expert in Power BI, Dynamics 365 Finance, Azure Synapse, and React." 🚩

That's not a job; that's an entire IT department. Avoid companies that don't know the difference between a Functional Consultant and a Data Engineer.

The "STAR" Method for Dynamics 365 Interviews 🧵

I interview 10 devs a week. The ones who fail usually ramble. The ones who get offers use STAR.

Situation. Task. Action. Result.

Here is how to apply it to a Tech Interview: 👇

Microsoft Licensing is a full-time job in itself. 💸

Client: "Why do we need a Premium license for this app?" You: "Because we are hitting SQL Azure."

If you can explain the difference between "Per App" and "Per User" plans clearly to a CFO, you are invaluable.

Cover letters are dead. "Project Portfolios" are alive.

Don't send me a generic PDF letter. Send me a link to a GitHub repo or a PDF screenshot deck of apps you’ve built (sanitize the data first!). I hire builders, not writers.

Stop hardcoding GUIDs in your flows! 😫

If you are referencing a specific record ID in a Power Automate flow, it will break the moment you move it to Production. Use Environment Variables. This is day-one stuff, but I still see Seniors making this mistake.

"Willing to learn" is a wasted bullet point on a resume. Everyone is willing to learn. 🗑️

Instead, prove you can learn. "Self-taught Power FX in 3 weeks and deployed an app for HR." "Passed PL-400 while working full-time."

Demonstrate capacity, don't just promise it.

Sunday Scaries? 👻

If you are dreading logging into your D365 environment tomorrow, it might be the project, not the career. The ecosystem is huge. Don't like CRM? Try ERP. Don't like generic dev? Try specialized Power BI reporting.

Pivot, don't quit.

Your LinkedIn headline is prime real estate.

"Microsoft Enthusiast" = Vague.
"Power Platform Developer | 5x Certified | PCF Expert" = Searchable.

Recruiters search by keywords. Help them find you.

Weekend Project Idea: Build a custom connector.

Don't rely on the standard connectors. Find a public API (like OpenWeather or Spotify), build a custom wrapper, and pull that data into a Canvas App. Great practice for understanding JSON and authentication.

Contracting vs. Full Time in the Microsoft world.

Contracting: Higher cash flow, focus on delivery, less politics.
Full Time: Benefits, training budgets, career ladder.

Neither is better. But know which one fits your current life stage before you apply.

Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (F&O) devs are currently the unicorns of the market. 🦄

Supply is low. Demand is high. If you are a standard .NET developer looking to pivot? Learn X++. It’s a steep learning curve, but the market rates are undeniable right now.

Remote work is standard in the Microsoft ecosystem, but "Async Communication" is a skill.

If I have to message you 3 times to get a status update, you aren't a remote worker; you're a bottleneck. Over-communicating is the secret to getting promoted while working from home.

Copilot Studio is moving fast. 🤖

The shift from "Power Virtual Agents" to "Copilot Studio" isn't just a rebrand. The ability to point a bot at a website or internal SharePoint and have it generate answers instantly is killing the old "Topic" based architecture.

Adapt or get left behind.

Interview Question Prep: "Tell me about a time your flow failed."

If you say "It never fails," I know you're lying. I want to hear about your error handling. Did you use 'Configure Run After'? Did you implement a Try/Catch/Finally scope?

Show me how you handle the mess.

Canvas Apps vs. Model-Driven Apps

Too many juniors force a Canvas App because they want "pixel perfect" design. But if the client needs complex data relationships and business process flows? Model-Driven wins every time. Don't reinvent the wheel just to make it pretty.

The highest-paid Dynamics 365 consultants aren't the ones who code the fastest. 💰

They are the ones who can say "No" to a client when the requirement is bad. Soft skills (Requirements Gathering & Stakeholder Management) + Tech Skills = $150k+ Salary.
