Added a button to EXPLODE ALL CARS. With the three-tier meter it gives the player the choice on when to use it. However now the shield functionality feels redundant.

Slight improvement: clearing all cars when the meter is full. I think it gives some breathing room, but the player don't have that much control on when it gets triggered (on the other hand I'm not sure there is a reason not to use it).

Tried out a boost button that would increase the game speed and temporarily reduce the number of cars. The idea was to give the player more control on the game's pace and difficulty, but it didn't make a big enough difference to be useful.

I'm still not satisfied with the gameplay relying on reflexes this much. That wouldn't be an issue if there were levels or patterns to learn, but here the cars spawn randomly, with rules to keep it fair. I want a way to allow the player to improve that wouldn't just be "think faster". #gamedev

Thanks! I can't decide if it feels too mean to be able to hit the guests with their own bag, but it feels mechanically nice to throw.

Small change: added a segmented energy meter. The design is a bit crude for now, but I can finally remove the numbers on the cars.

Can someone on a Mac please tell me if the "Save As" dialogue supports:

1. typing an absolute path as the filename, like /home/lynn/foo.png
2. typing a relative path as the filename, like foo/bar.png
3. using ~ in the path, like ~/foo.png
4. using variables in the path, like $HOME/foo.png

A smorgasbord of procedurally generated levels from my upcoming #pico8 #gamedev project.

They all lie somewhere on a spectrum ranging from fully generated to remixing authored content, but its essential that they're randomized on each attempt so that planning becomes as important as execution.

Bit more work on my #pico8 #gamedev project this evening, added some basic hit detection with some particles, as well as a game state which displays a message and loads in the next level.

It's a bit all over the place, but can be polished. I think I will work on lives and game overs next.

I'm sadly sick at the moment, but that means I have tons of time to code.

I added a color change to indicate when a car can be destroyed, and a short "grace period" (5 frames) during which you can still hit it even though your meter is depleted.

More tweaks: making the "raming-mode" more challenging by removing the chain explosion. I think this works, especially at higher speeds.

Hitting cars now directly increases the speed. This gives the player more control over the difficulty. I've also tried switching the score from distance to speed to give the player an incentive to go faster (thanks @voidgazerbon.bsky.social !)
