We agree that it should never have been allowed to get this bad.

There are two paths to correct it:

1. High risk - revolution and decades of reconstruction or chaos ??

2. Slower - elect those who will revamp the tax code and push economic gains to lower and middle classes.

I hear your point.

My only point is, we have to find a way to give them tools to resist or halt encroaching politicization of their command structure.

THE key step to authoritarian takeover of a democracy is political takeover of the military.

We need to find more tools to halt it.

Bring a special case to move a court to issue a formal ruling to define "unlawful orders" for the current, unprecedented situation.

Let's find a test case that can be used as an exemplar. Accelerate the process.

Assaulting citizens in the streets of American cities cannot be a lawful order.

A high profile, high credibility way to make a large statement about acceptable conduct.

We won't save the rule of law with small tweaks.

Yes, this is good news.

What we need, though, is something that clarifies the grey for those military and NG now supporting ICE... a way to influence their current choices.

If we wait for courts to adjudicate cases after the fact, it will be too late. Autocrats will have taken full control.

How can we eliminate the grey area? Could we prepare a simple, single page reference list of "unlawful orders"?

Then, have it ratified by someone with enough standing to use as defense against dishonorable discharge.
