3/5 Our results show that the barrier can reduce advective flow by 97.98% across the isolated area. However, the backfill material cannot prevent diffusive contaminant transport, which remains a key challenge.

I’m very happy to have contributed to Ana Guedes’ master’s research, now published in the Journal of Environmental Engineering!

In this study, we investigated a high-permeability vertical barrier for waste isolation using a sandbox experiment, analytical solution, and numerical model.
