Thanks to the Long Long Trail I now know how much of a drop in income my grandfather took in 1914 when he rejoined the Army. Even with his promotion to Sergeant within 5 months he still had a shortfall of 6 shillings a week

Two of my very earliest additions to my collection. A farmer & his wife.
If only I knew who they were & what are the crops?
Does anyone recognise them?

Or been raised on The Beano, The Eagle's Dan Dare and of course imported American comics like Superman/Green Lantern etc Storyboarding made easy 😹
Yes words on the page are definitely a good thing Cut and paste is your friend In the old days I could only write with pen and paper you can imagine the hassle trying to rearrange - it might be why I write around images - sort of comicbook style - as easier to do on separate pages?

3/ sometimes addressing a question at the relevant point makes more sense rather than leaving it to the end All of which are much easier to do in person facing your audience Zoom is much harder because you have no real feel for your audience Nothing like a ripple of laughter to gee you up!
2/ and whether it was a teaching or entertainment presentation made a big difference. Most of my entertainment ones had a fast slide rate and jokey moments to keep everyone awake in a darkened room 😹 and my teaching ones had to have a bit of space for questions and relevant contributions as
So interesting how different people write presentations Dai. Yes I had a plan of what needed to be said but I used to write around images a lot and work out how many slides I needed for the time allotted. And usually I had a script based on 7K words for 35-40 minutes. /1

Cap off the week with some #familyhistory tunes. Our digital editor came up with a playlist to listen to while researching your #genealogy brick walls. Do you have any songs that you would add? Help us create a part 3!
5/ I have had a lot of trouble finding him and to make things worse his daughter's husband went to Quebec where two of their daughters married into the Hall family which also had Scottish Burray links but not related Confusion all round - the Halls came from the USA (Mass) #genealogy
Have been revisiting daughter's Scots who went to Quebec recently Found an ancestor of theirs one George Burray who turns up in the British military records as Barry, Berry, Burry. Luckily he was a Chelsea pensioner but with 3 separate attestations 1799 into the Elgin Fencibles /1
4) So it is always worth looking for vowel changes in names But what a find! He was married with 2 children when he signed up into the Fencibles which was a volunteer #militia and it was at the time of invasion scares but he must have liked soldiering. His poor wife! #genealogy
3/ If I didn't have his description book entry for the 72nd Foot as Burry those entries under Barry and Berry might have been ignored and by 1812 his complexion has changed from fair to ruddy then to dark but his height eye colour and occupation are the same
2/ 1800 transfer into 72nd Foot and presumably with them in South Africa and in the invasion of Mauritius in 1810 discharge 1811 into 3rd Royal Veteran Regiment until final discharge 1812 Then back he is again in 1815 with the 9th Veterans for 6 months until 1816 /2

At 10:45 on 18 October, Peter Higgenbotham will cover the evolution of the poor relief system from 1601 to 1948, looking at the development and operation of workhouses, the lives of their inmates, and the various records available relating to them. More detail: bit.ly/3Vd7NMS

And this can be true of other documents held in British archives where in former times those of some monetary value were sold off - so annoying to find such entries in a manuscript catalogue of family muniments particularly when it is your own family you are researching #genealogy #archives
As a frequent researcher among the Stratford wills at the Birthplace Trust archives this was really interesting to me. Stratford documents can be tricky to find because the #Shakespeare connection means they were dispersed to museums and libraries all over the world. #genealogy
Interesting - not seen one of these before (UK here) the wording that he was free as long as he supported himself makes me wonder what happened if he was no longer able to do so? #genealogy
