I cut this laser titanium sapphire gemstone from a PhD dissertation! The scientist who grew this sent it to me in exchange for getting a cut stone, and I think it turned out pretty cool - the little bubbles from the growth give it some character. #labgems #lasers

If you're looking for a cheap machine, my brother and I put together the CutKit (www.facet.ing) which lets you upgrade a cheap Vevor base into a fully functional faceting setup for less than $500 all in (including the laps, diamond compound, wax, and some starter rough which are all in the kit)

Natural Fluorite is what Fluorescence was named after, but this is labmade europium-doped scintillator fluorite. Used to detect invisible radiation, it has a bright blue glow (our camera turns it purple)

Fluorite is a bit soft for most jewelry (like rings), but it's possible to wear as a pendant.

At the risk of self-promotion, cheapest way is probably to get a CutKit setup from our site at www.facet.ing. If you want to see it in use, Hedron Rockworks did a faceting side-by-side comparing against the high-end machine he normally uses for his amazing gem dice www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nxq5...

We named this synthetic gem "Christmas Garnet". It has a green base color and a strong red fluorescence from chromium ions (the same ion that makes ruby red and emerald green). Used in lasers as a q-switch (to convert from continuous to pulsed fire), Cr:YAG is one of the coolest gems I've ever seen.

Hello! We're on BlueSky now, and excited to show off the new gems we've got in stock.
This is Samarium-Doped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet (Sm:YAG). For scientific use, small quantities are grown for use in diamond anvils - the fluorescence color changes very controllably with pressure.
