I wish you could have seen my face reading this. I hurt for you. This reminds me so much of my senior thesis on comic’s influencer on popular media and visual literacy and being literally laughed at by the teacher in charge of the class for choosing a “pointless topic”

Idk if that’s an unhinged opinion but I’m here to swing a sword on that hill as someone who has difficulty reading novels due to reading comprehension issues and learns & retains information best through visual and auditory offerings

Folks who enjoy to consume their stories in comic book form (including manga) or audio book form are no less well read than those who read “real books”.

Visual literacy is a thing. Auditory comprehension is a thing. We shouldn’t shame anyone for how they choose to engage with literature.

I know some folks shake their fists at licensed comics but if it’s someone’s first introduction to comics & graphic novels either as a reader, that’s totally awesome and creates more opportunities to cross sell them on other stories.

All of this takes time and effort. It’s a lot of work to market and sell comics effectively both by the published and within in the shop, especially in this economy and social media saturated market. It’s not a quick ROI. You’re building an audience & customer base.

The same goes for audiences for both IPs. They may not be comic shops regulars or even be aware there is a comic shop in their area, so really making a push online to reach those folks with information about shops, how to preorder, other titles they may enjoy, etc will go a long way on all sides.
