Manchester is building more new social, council, and genuinely affordable housing than for over a decade.🏡

Pleased to attend the opening event for a large development of new affordable housing in Openshaw today.

Jigsaw Housing have built 71 new affordable homes, including 46 for social rent on a former brownfield site for local residents.

Brilliant to meet the new tenants who have moved in today.🏡

In the first six months of 2025-2026, we have seen 437 new affordable homes built and completed with local residents now moved in all across Manchester.

This includes:

🏡 170 homes for social rent
🏘 101 homes at Manchester Living Rent
🏗 All on brownfield sites in 14 different wards of the city.

Planning committee @mancitycouncil.bsky.social approved a number of schemes this week including 434 affordable homes, of which 267 will be for social rent in Moss Side, Newton Heath and Baguley. These much needed homes will be vital for these communities.🏡

We held our monthly litter pick, gardening and clean up event with the Friends of Old Moat Park group today.🌳

Lots of volunteers from our community helping to collect litter, sweep the paths and sports cages from fallen leaves, and plant some new flowers too.🍂🍁
