A Comic for the Elawa Family.

Panel 2: Five men link arms to form a line as they hop and stomp in sync. This is a traditional folk dance with origins in Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Iraq, and Syria. Narration: We had a dabkeh band, which was a hit with the crowd! Panel 3: Sami and Muna, who holds a flower bouquet, ponder to themselves. Floating words surround them, which say “curtains?” “Paint color?” “Furniture?” And “accents?” Narration: Furnishing their house took a long time. Panel 4: A beautiful, ornate living room with four fancy upholstered couches. Multi-layered curtains adorn the far wall, and a chandelier hangs from the ceiling. Narration: The result was breathtaking. Panel 5: The same living room is now rubble as a gaping hole now shows the neighboring building. In the corner, one of the upholstered couches still stands, covered in ash and debris. Narration: Today, nothing remains except one sofa. It's as if the house itself just evaporated.

Amidst household items, a sickly Heba lays under a blanket as a concerned Shahed touches her forehead. From the top of the tent dangles a phone with its flashlight on, which is the interior’s only source of light.
