I had a great time at Brisbane Writers Festival. A brief, but packed day and a half for me! Thanks to everyone who came along to my four events, my fellow panellists and chairs, the organisers, volunteers and booksellers.

I’m in there 35 times but there’s another ten or so books missing which I know were in the LibGen database and are also LoC registered, and are from years ago (so the recency thing doesn’t apply.)

I’ll be at WFC for the whole time, but if you can’t make it for the whole duration this is good. (The Friday night mass autographing is always a highlight, if you can only get to one day).

If you can't make the full four days then individual day attendances (tickets) are now available in the website shop:
worldfantasy2025.co.uk/shop/

These do not include online access and voting rights, but can be bought alongside an online membership.

They all hold up to varying degrees, for me. The funnier ones hold up the best. My favourites in no particular order:
Unknown Ajax
Black Sheep
The Toll Booth
Friday’s Child
Cotillion

View from an Adelaide hotel. I’m rarely here at this time of year, I expect it to always be very hot and dry 😀

I found some bell charms. Yes, I was tidying my office (a rare event). So I’m giving them away this Monday at the Writers Assemble event. I also found some Charter Mark pins I will give away on Saturday and Sunday. The (free) sessions are almost full, so book in www.eventbrite.com/cc/writers-a...
Three rare silver bell charms, from the Old Kingdom (sort of). Yes, one day I will get more made. A packet of Charter mark pins, gold and blue enamel. Not real gold.

Mister Fitz strongly recommends that if you’ll be in Adelaide this weekend (and Monday) you should come to Writers Assemble! The new free literary festival. I’ll be there, with a few things to give away as well. Book here:

Woke up this morning, discovered I’d gone full wizard. Shouldn’t have talked about “genre wizards” attending Writers Assemble! Couldn’t unlock phone, facial recognition fail and talons (not pictured) very awkward.

WRITERS ASSEMBLE!
I will be assembling at this FREE festival in Adelaide September 20-22, very soon now! Too many authors to list but including many wonderful genre wizards like Kaaron Warren, Sean Williams, Kathleen Jennings, and (ahem) me!

Unfortunately LucasFilm own the series, which means Disney, and they just sit on the rights and won't do anything, including new editions. My agent and I have tried to get them to republish, or relinquish the volume (book) rights at least, to no avail.

It may not, but good to be included on this just in case.

(As the page states, it doesn't make you a member of the class, but it gathers data so you will be informed. I think this is OK and sensible to do.)

With news of a reported settlement with Anthropic I went back to check the class action form and it now allows authors outside the US to input their address, so it may be worth adding your known pirated titles (from the LibGen pirate database) www.lieffcabraser.com/anthropic-au...

I just posted about a funny typo on my Lodestar finalist certificate from the Glasgow Worldcon, it had "The Sinister Booksellers of Barth" not "Bath". Understandable with my first name 😀 I deleted it as the pic had a signature on it and also I forgot to complete the alt text for the image. Sorry.

If you want this cartoon expanded to a novel, I recommend THE LEFTHANDED BOOKSELLERS OF LONDON by @garthnix.bsky.social

My latest cartoon for @theguardian.com books
A character walks into a shop. The sign reads:
“Books”
Across the floor of the bookshop, past the bookshelves, is a stair down with a sign reading:
“Used Books”
Across the used books floor is a stair down marked:
“Antiquarian Books”
Across the antiquarian books floor is a stair down marked:
“Forbidden Books of the Elden Ones”
Stalactites hang. Strange tomes sit on plinths. Unearthly creatures scuttle in the gloom. A figure stands before a cash desk where a cyclopean, tentacled staff member says:
“Yes, we do have the new Stephen King but it's back up on the ground floor.”

Coming in October, the latest book in Juliet McKenna's best-selling Green Man series. Dan is hoping for a quiet holiday in the country. Ha!

Image is of an animal-like face with many sharp teeth peering out from a pile of gray rocks. Foliage and white flowers cover the rocks.
