It's not too late for you, is it? We can plant through mid-October. With all the warm weather we've been having, I think we'll be fine with planting this weekend. We had to wait a little longer to plant due to the fact that we started solarizing the soil a little late.

Wow. How exciting! I have a lot of gulf fritillaries and clouded sulphurs, but haven't seen many monarchs this year. Maybe the wildflower garden I'm getting ready to plant will change that.

#WaterfallWednesday The trail to Hemlock Falls is an easy (and beautiful) forested hike. Downstream of these falls is where I captured my first (and only) good picture of a kingfisher last fall. #Birds 🪶

Water cascades over a sheer cliff, tumbling in tendrils of whitewater into a clear, cool pool below.

A stocky, large headed bird with a shaggy crest and a thick dagger-like beak sits in the branches of tree. The female belted kingfisher is blue-gray with chestnut bands, most notably on its belly and flanks.

I'm not too familiar with Canadian species of birds, but it looks like a Canada jay, also known as a gray jay. Maybe some of my Canadian birder friends can tell you for sure. @saskajanet.bsky.social @secondnaturemb.bsky.social Is it a Canada jay?
