“… the endless fantasy in politics is persuasion without representation. You elect us to represent you, and where we disagree, we will explain to you why you are wrong. The result of that politics tends to be neither persuasion nor representation.“

For over a decade, my Foundations of HCI undergrad course has covered “privacy & surveillance” with a (2002) reading about the Panopticon and a once distant warning about how social media sites could create a self-censoring reality. And Ellison is just… owning/celebrating the dystopia.
Larry Ellison envisions a surveillance state in which techbros rule. '“Citizens will be on their best behavior, because we’re constantly recording and reporting everything that is going on,” Ellison said in an hour-long Q&A during Oracle’s Financial Analyst Meeting last week.'

The quote is famous but fictional; less well known is the fact that Jackson did, ultimately, comply with the Court. So have all of his successors. Trump is on the brink of breaking that precedent. If he succeeds, he will have broken the bonds of the Constitution as well.
In an 1832 standoff with the Supreme Court, President Andrew Jackson—a hero of Trump’s—is apocryphally supposed to have said that Chief Justice John Marshall “has made his decision; now let him enforce it!”
