Audrey Watters always nails it. In the face of all the horrors she points to, the comment from @dougbelshaw.com provides a glimmer of hope: "I do remain hopeful for open source LLMs trained on publicly-auditable data".

"Now is the time... to imagine a world in which government supports health and education for all, where we all live without fear, knowing that our interconnected lives are equally valuable."
“An exhilarated hatred now parades as freedom, while the freedoms for which many of us have struggled for decades are distorted and trammeled as morally repressive ‘wokeism’.”

Thought-provoking blog post from Maha (as always) on accountability in the use of GenAI - I especially like the references to anticipatory and remedial accountability. And the "micro-survey" is still open. It challenged me to think about my own accountability practices.
There is a tiny survey linked inside this brief blogpost of mine on the LSE HE Blog, if you're done grading and have a minute, could you respond to it please?

When it comes to AI, is transparency enough?

Am loving listening to the audio of HE for Good! The intro by @catherinecronin.bsky.social and @czernie.bsky.social highlights what a tour de force it is - such wide-ranging authors, genres and topics. The common themes are care for the entire HE community, hope and imagination for a better future.
The audio version of Higher Education for Good is now available. To access the audio, please visit the book web page www.openbookpublishers.com/books/10.116..., scroll down to any chapter, and click Download (for MP3 version).
