If I was unfortunate enough to be like that, I'd probably not trust scientists either.

He tries to be cunning, too, but notices that clever people show him to be wrong anyway - so he will assume clever people are tring to trick him, just as he thinks he would, if he was clever.
People who are, themselves, untrustworthy, tend to the paranoid.

It makes sense.

They base their theory of mind on themselves, and, thus assume everyone else is untrustworthy, dishonest, and a bit thick, in his case, particularly.

I never go to events put on by my old school, because they are always 'men only' events, which, to me, means they're hugely tedious.

I find diverse company much more stimulating.

Laurence Sterne's masterpiece of delight ought to be required reading for everybody.
It is a very interesting paper! I see that the problem isn't really with homeostasis itself as a term, but with the overlay of the cybernetic interpretation.

Using the word 'allostasis' seems a good idea.
In America. [similar to the caveat 'in mice']
Emergence tends to be a lazy substitute for a causal explanation, that reflects perception and our inclination to see patterns, even when they aren't there.

Excepting, of course, the 'weak emergence' used more or less metaphorically in maths & physics, like the gas 'laws'.
@drrachelbarr.bsky.social I'm sure you don't have a need for unsolicited research suggestions...

... but, if you did, I think the effect of GIP / GLP1-RAs, like tirzepatice (mounjaro) on the brain would be very interesting.

I don't think people realize what an immediate impact this is going to have on outbreak response and containment.
According to a state epidemiologist, "CDC personnel who normally share information with state officials during outbreaks have been eliminated."
“One veteran researcher who still has his job (and, like other public-health workers I spoke with for this story, requested anonymity for fear of losing it) told me he believes that Kennedy’s ultimate goal is to “silence the scientific voice of career CDC scientists.””

A minimum of 60 civilians lost their lives, and many others sustained injuries following the shelling of a displacement shelter in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, by the UAE-backed RSF militia on Friday and Saturday.
It is a strange, and unpleasant, irony that zionists are responsible for a rise in antisemitism, because of their terrible lie that all Jews are zionists.

Any hints as to how much tirzepatide, Mounjaro, affects brain function?

It has anti-inflammatory & neuroprotectiv effects, as well as influencing the dopamine system.

Might it affect the functioning of the default mode network (DM ), ageing, be nootropic?
Yea, right. Plants have been turning CO2 into food for millins of years. It's their thing.

A further problem is that glasses, contact lenses, and lazik eye surgery don't work for myopia in the -12 diopter region.

Only total lens replacement works, but this is seldom, if ever, available to children, since it is usually treatment for cataracts.
