Ah, that’s unfortunate. I can thank Mrs Blyton for my ginger beer - and moss-covered cave - fascination. She can keep the potted tongue though.

C.S. Lewis created generations of people who grew up to be disappointed by Turkish Delight.

Agreed. I like to reread books I know, as an audiobook because a good narrator brings so much to the table and it’s enlightening seeing it from a different angle. Also narrators don’t stumble over unfamiliar words or pronunciation.

I read my books aloud to myself when editing, it helps flow issues

I do this too now. I listen to a lot of audiobooks so usually give an author two hours to interest me. That should be plenty.

Recently endured 12 hours to find the unlikeable characters failed to enliven a disappointing plot. 12 hours I will never get back.

I’ve always had a soft spot for his cover (with June) of ‘Jackson’, but his personal jesus is great.

Research has shown the opposite: that many choose abortions because they care deeply about their children and choose abortions when their circumstances mean they will struggle to give their children the life they want them to have. That she had him should tell him everything he needs to know.

Best to look into it, but my understanding is that the wool issue isn’t so much about hot water, as it is about temperature change: ie hot water into cold. So if you’re simmering, then use similar temp water to rinse.

That Madonna-whore stuff is a real trip.

Six years: it's not going to get any better. It doesn't even sound like he respects her. Time to go.

"You're right! He should be saving, not wasting money buying me birthday presents.

I hope he's got the receipt so he can take it all back to the store! I'm so sorry, I didn't realise that he should be asking your permission first before spoiling his girlfriend. I'll remind him next time I see him"

Such an incredible composition. I feel the same way - and Benny Goodman's 'Sing Sing Sing' does it too. I used to like to play this every morning when I opened my vintage clothing shop, it set the pace for the day and got me in a good, upbeat mood.

I guess its associated (mistakenly, I think) with poverty - which is unfortunate. But line-drying is better for every reason.

It's a very unfortunate truth. Education benefits all of us.

Once again, Australia scores. Region D has the best food, both with production and cuisine.

I'm always amazed that 'the land of the free' restricts its residents in so many ways!

I love line-drying my clothes and linens: nothing beats the smell of freshly dried in clean air and sun laundry. It's one of my favourite things.

A nice example of Australian built heritage with an important public function: the cast iron pissoir at Dawes Point. Just a pity, now that it's heritage-listed, that it's no longer available for its designed purpose! Maybe they could lease it to a coffee purveyor ?

Living alone is the best! Everyone should do it, for a while at least - you find out more about yourself, become more independent and appreciate others more when you spend time with them. Plus you don't have to look after anyone else: wonderful!

This reminds me of my experience as a retail business owner: you can offer your customers the best products, the best prices and the best service - pick two of the three because it's impossible to offer all of them.

I chose best product and service, but couldn't compete on price.

Oh no! You have to dress up.
