For the first time, the #EU raised concerns about #ElSalvador at the Human Rights Council, spotlighting President Bukele's escalated crackdown.

But more is needed. EU should use its human rights toolbox strategically to foster positive change & ensure accountability. 🧵

Jair Bolsonaro, Brazil’s former president, has been convicted of plotting a coup.

The historic ruling is the first time a former president was tried for an attempted coup in Brazil, showing nobody should be above the law.

#Israel forces occupying southern #Syria have destroyed homes, forcibly displaced civilians, in absence of immediate threat.

These are war crimes.

@kajakallas.bsky.social: #EU should press for accountability & seek sanctions on officials responsible of violations.

All states have legal obligations to end the genocide & punish those responsible.

At long last: @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu to propose sanctions on Israeli ministers, suspension of #EU - #Israel trade deal

It took 2 years of unspeakable crimes, 60K+ killed, famine, growing consensus on #genocide

It will go on, unless #Merz & #Meloni stop blocking EU action

#SOTEU
What is happening in Gaza has shaken the conscience of the world.

Man-made famine can never be a weapon of war. This must stop.

EU aid to Gaza far outweighs that of any other partner.

But of course, Europe needs to do more.

Here are measures for a way forward ↓

The #EuropeanUnion has been an exception, increasingly raising concerns about #ElSalvador's deteriorating situation - but more steps are necessary to stop the dismantling of institutional checks & concentration of power.
