Just a Phan with a ridiculously large collection of Frew Phantom comics.

The review ebook has a January 24 release date. I'm unable to set up preorders for free books but obviously I'll remind you all when it drops. I hope to have the paperback also done by then (POD, available only by contacting me directly) - and this concludes any updates on the matter until January.
Typesetting complete. Basic ebook cover created (have stock subscription and Photoshop, will travel). Next stage is proofing...and possibly making paperback files. Or maybe picking up the latest issue and reading that 😅
Third draft of The Book is now finished. What's next? Typesetting!

I couldn't get this team up idea out of my head so here it is!
I think this is an unstoppable team!
What do you guys think?

Just found this file in my cloud storage and remembered that I once searched Trove for the Phantom's first appearance in Australia. As you do! (Yes, yes... I know it's not Frew...) #thephantom
Actually, if we could get a "Treehouse of Horror"-style issue every year, I'd be a very happy camper.
No 2006 — The Man Who Cannot Die
What if the Phantom truly was the man who cannot die? He has lived for centuries, endlessly fighting piracy, and hasn’t much humanity left. This was awesome! A great read in the lead up to Halloween — I’d like to see more stories like this.

Another Dragon?
After hearing reports of a “dragon” sighting near where Steggy was found, the Phantom heads to the island to investigate. A one-note story that felt unnecessary. The ending was slightly amusing, I guess, even if I expected it.

The Killer and the Ghost Pt 2
The Phantom and Niki Leung realise that Thai Lo doesn’t want revenge; he wants to stop the Phantom finding a cocaine factory. One can’t help but admire Niki, since she knows how to get the job done. Both parts of this story have been excellent.

No 2005
This issue serves up part 2 of “The Killer and the Ghost”, along with a Frew-first story by Shane Foley.
I Chop It Down with the Edge of my Hand (The Phantom: Vietnam Chp 12)
The Phantom recovers in a village and discovers that he isn’t the only Walker to visit. Just when I think Mason might run out of ideas for this series, he delivers this brilliant chapter. Bonus Julie!

The Killer and the Ghost Pt 1
Thai Lo (AKA 21) wants revenge on the Phantom and sends Niki Leung, a retired hitwoman, to deal with him. I love a good bar brawl. I also love interesting guest characters. Combine these elements and you’re going to have a great time.

No 2004
This issue pairs a new Team Fantomen story with the next instalment of The Phantom: Vietnam.

We hope you’ll dig part 3 when it eventually comes out, with the hopes we get to do more with Julie down the track. Thank you!
I'm sure I will, as Julie is my greatest weakness 😅
Finally caught up on everything, including Giantsize. Now I can relax... *spots the Super Yank hardcovers on my dining room table* Oh no
No 2003 — The Final Battle (The Devil’s Brotherhood Pt 3)
Rpt. The Phantom heads to Hong Kong to take on the remaining Tiger Generals and the mysterious “21”. The Phantom’s legend was used well here. But I’m a bit disgruntled that this battle is far from “final”.

No 2002 — The Tiger General (The Devil’s Brotherhood Pt 2)
Rpt. Chou Chan’s daughter is kidnapped and the Phantom flies to Bangkok to rescue her. This is an engaging story, but the edges are fraying a bit. The crocodile scene made the bad guys look ridiculously inept.

No 2001 — The Red Staff (The Devil’s Brotherhood Pt 1)
Rpt. When Chou Chan, a friend of the Phantom’s, goes missing in China, the purple guy heads over and encounters opium dealers. I’m amazed at just how much story these pages yielded. I’m very invested in what happens next.

Fury Pt 2
Only slightly hampered by her age, Julie continues to seek revenge and ruminates on what led her to take action. I am loving this story so far. It’s an excellent blend of the past and present. And despite being short, this part had quite the impact on me.

The Tomb of Zadak
A Nazi arrives in Bangalla and mounts an expedition to find a shaman’s tomb, in the hopes of procuring a magical bag. Utterly average and utterly unremarkable. It follows tired paths that other stories have already tread — many, many times before.
2/5
The Chain (2024)
The Phantom recounts a dream he had, then deals with some crooks in the jungle (with Kit’s help). Ooh. I’m conflicted. While I agree that the original story doesn’t jive with today’s Phantom, this sets a troubling precedent for retconning. No story is safe!
3.5/5
The Chain (1953)
Rpt. When the Phantom wants to quit, the Bandar Woru tells him about a time in his father’s past when patience won the day. This story is memorable and shows us an important event, but I’m not sure it deserved the glowing review I previously gave it.

The Return of the Golden Circle Pt 4
The Phantom tangles with the Golden Circle and triumphs. Then he delivers a happy ending. You couldn’t ask for more from this conclusion. It has all the action you could want, wraps everything up neatly, and leaves you with a smile.
