The background image is an eighteenth-century ink and watercolor rendition of the harbor of Le Cap in modern Haiti, with three ships and one small boat foregrounded in the bay and a handful of buildings scattered on the shore in the background.

NOW PLAYING: Episode 18: The Resurrection

Fourteen years after British forces conquered New France during the Seven Years’ War, Parliament’s passage of the Quebec Act in 1774 resurrects old fears of French Catholic tyranny in Protestant British America.

Today a follow up to yesterday’s post on being an ECR in French History, by @wadehistory.bsky.social

frenchhistorysociety.co.uk/6744/ 🗃️ #FRHistory
For me, it is difficult to overstate how challenging it is to be an ECR in French history right now. One fellow ECR speaks of it being
'cataclysmically bad'; another speaks of the academic job market as a ravaging 'tornado';
neither are exaggerations.
