For the Kimmel Memorial Presidential Ridicule Award, the nominees are:

Jon Stewart
Stephen Colbert
Seth Meyers

And (as I fumble with the envelope), the award goes to ... Jon Stewart !

I wonder how many people realize ... if the Democratic Party had a presidential candidate in place TODAY, every insane comment by the incumbent president would be challenged by a sane alternative? And the alternative would be covered extensively.

Wake the hell up and put a challenger in place. NOW.

Words from NPR after the Trump-instigated cut to federal funding for public media: "My colleagues and I showed up for work in the middle of the night. We covered OUR CRITICS AS WELL AS OUR CHEERLEADERS. In other words, WE DID THE NEWS THE SAME WAY WE HAVE FOR DECADES".

Critics should be ashamed.

I don't know why this is so often forgotten or buried, but the Trump Family Fortune began with Trump's grandfather. "Friedrich" operated a brothel in the Yukon territory of Canada, selling sex and booze to gold prospectors.

When I suggest that Dems need to work hard on messaging that will resonate not only with devout liberals, but on those who identify as Independent or are clearly "Trump Hesitant", many object. Those objectors need to pay more attention to trends:

I am officially announcing my complete disinterest in the Epstein Files. No, they won't bring Trump down. They won't bring anybody down. If you think they will bring anybody down, you should get out from under that rock you've been hiding under, take a shower and find something useful to do.

If The Left is going to position itself as the credible, trusted alternative to The Right, then it's critical to get all the facts straight before attacking. But so many people want to shoot first and aim later. It's counter-productive, self-defeating and may result in injury.

Best Line Heard on Canada Day 2025:

Question: "What is the Canadian equivalent of the famous American expression, "As American as apple pie."

Answer: "As Canadian as possible, under the circumstances."

Hilarious. 😂

It's wildly unrealistic to think that Mamdani won't be used as the symbol of "everything wrong with the socialist left". The priority now should be to redefine his "democratic socialist" message into something that a majority of Democrats, independents and Trump-hesitant Republicans can live with.

I don't know how it happened, but I think I've become clairvoyant. All I have to see is the headline of any article posted on Bsky and, Poof, I instantly know what the first 50 commenters are going to say about it.

I don't know what the next 50 will say because I'm bored by then and lose interest.

The Big Lie: "Los Angeles is a criminal city controlled by murderers, rapists and drug dealers."

General Reaction: "Well, nobody would be crazy enough to say that if it weren't true. So I guess Trump is doing the right thing."

Those Republicans in Congress who start to mildly question Trump policies (and sanity) need to be applauded. Forget their past, forget their motivation - give them a symbolic pat on the back and an "Atta Boy!".

You will never change a kid's behavior by telling them how stupid they've been.

I have an incurable problem. I'm an "analyzer" by nature. When someone makes a categorical statement or pronouncement, I look at the logic/evidence that supports it. If I don't find any, I reject it - no matter which "side" the statement comes from, hard right or hard left. Accept that if you Follow

I agree with Tim Walz. This is not the time for Democrats/Liberals to engage in "barbs and snark". Focus on the priority - finding an honest, understandable set of messages that will resonate with the broadest segment of the population. And do it right damn now.

Stop the infighting/fingerpointing.

Trump says his new attack on Canada will produce $100 billion in revenue for the US. Wrong. How do I know that? Because he's a pathological liar and incompetent. There is no chance that number is right. None.

And every dollar it DOES produce comes from Americans - not Canadians. It's a tax, fools.

Mr. Trump had come to realize that the relationship between the United States and Canada was governed by a slew of agreements and treaties that were easy to abandon.
Mr. Trump was interested in doing just that, Mr. Lutnick said.
