I’ve been on a massive Tolkien kick lately! While I love the Peter Jackson films, my heart belongs to the animated ones. Bakshi’s Lord of the Rings is great, but for pure Shirey goodness, it’s Rankin/Bass’s The Hobbit. Had to make this piece over the weekend—hope you enjoy! :)

Heidi’s been wearing glasses for a little while now, so it was well past due that I added this detail to the ACTUAL strip. Hence, this little mini-story.

So, when I first drew this, it was obviously in a month where October 13th, fell on a friday. Perhaps the only thing scarier than that, is a Friday the 13th that falls... ON A MONDAY!!!

I drew this strip about a year in to the webcomic. At the time, I was having difficulty balancing the strip as a slice of Life comic while still wanting to draw wacky, absurd stuff. Since then, I figured out more than enough ways to keep it visually interesting and fun to draw. Lol

Ugh. The world seems convinced to irritate me this morning. Two snickering women who thought they were being cute in the coffee shop this morning really got to me more than I'd have thought. Some days, I just don't have the spoons for the ugliness that has gotten so much more common since November.

Well, THIS isn't good. My iPad... where I ink the majority of my work... is no longer holding a charge. I unplugged it for a half hour and it went from 100% to completely dead.

Final word count is 225,551, so the second-longest book in the series, and I'm REALLY happy with how it came out. Lots of solid stuff in there, that I hope other folks will also like!

With Applefest over, and pickles secured, this seemed like the appropriate strip to run from a few years past. And yes, the year I drew this, while I was hunting for pickles, this some WAS playing. It seemed... so appropriate. Lol

Heidi went through a manic "scarf" collecting phase. Also, a similar "hat" phase. There are... many hoards in our home. Half of them are mine, regarding jackets, flannels, Peanuts memorabilia, and various Transformers, so I can't really say squat.

I’m convinced the universe loves keeping me teetering between success and failure. Nudging me back and forth for its own amusement. The trip home from an otherwise awesome weekend (WAY back in August in reality.) was pure stress, but honestly… this kind of thing happens to me way too often. lol
