I think that Jimmie Dale's version is better than that of Hank Williams. There aren't many songs of which I think a cover is better than the original, but this is one. Jimmie Dale's mournful, plaintive voice meshes perfectly with the song's sad subject.

I purchased the album out of a cutout (delete) bin and was never really sure if it was 'good' or not, but I dug it. Never saw mention of it until long after I had traded/sold it off...now, of course, can't locate a copy!

Day 982 #recordsontheshelf #musicchallenge Over the last six months, I've become quite taken with Spencer Burton's music and have purchased four of his records. No hype sticker on this one, so the 'Baileys' coloured #vinyl was a pleasant surprise.

I haven't enjoyed this song (song, not performance) since the day it was pointed out to me that 'the good old days' being referenced was a fairly narrow view of history...and that those days- like similar songs from the Statlers & others- weren't great for everyone...

Day 981 #recordsontheshelf #musicchallenge #vinyl Early in '83, I discovered The Undertones via a Portuguese, cut-out bin pressing of Hypnotised. A casualty of the 'great vinyl downsize of 2012,' (faulty logic: "I have the CDs; why do I need the record?") look what I found to replace it!
