You can attribute absolutely none of dungeon synth's rise to AI. It's not a real part of the genre at all. Otherwise I'm not sure what one thing finally did it, between people's pandemic listening, word of mouth from artists, or (my favorite) the fact that people finally started playing it live.

It's just weird how the genre went from little/no wider recognition pre-AI to an explosion in popularity around the same time as increasing AI. Re: research though, these labels are full of AI-free artists: (1/2)

Or alternatively there's almost none if you follow artists/labels here or on Bandcamp/reddit etc. Those damn YouTube mixed with the cartoon frogs are only hard to avoid until you start avoiding them
