“This is an all‑island effort to ensure that disabled citizens and carers are recognised, heard and fully included in the life of the nation.”

“Almost half of respondents used savings, gave up necessities, or couldn’t afford extras due to costs.”

Caring for a child with FASD shouldn’t push families into financial hardship. We need targeted support & funding.

No Diagnostic Pathway, No Support

“Ireland does not have services for the diagnosis and management of FASD.”

Without a diagnostic pathway, families are left in limbo unable to access the supports their children urgently need.

“We urge policymakers to adopt clear clinical guidelines and improve supports for families affected by FASD.”

This is not just a recommendation, it’s a roadmap for change. The evidence is here. The time is now.

Rural Families Are Left Behind

“69% of caregivers lived in rural areas, where access to services is even more limited.”

Geography should not determine access to care. Rural families need outreach, online, and mobile services.

“Families saw an average of 5 professionals before receiving an FASD diagnosis.”

This delay causes stress, confusion, and missed opportunities for early intervention. Streamlined pathways are essential.

FASD Is Complex and Often Misunderstood

“80% of children had between 1 and 6 co-morbidities, including ADHD and ASD.”

FASD rarely exists alone. Services must be equipped to handle overlapping neurodevelopmental conditions.

Schools Are Not Prepared

“62% of caregivers reported that school staff did not understand FASD.”

Children with FASD are being misunderstood and mismanaged in classrooms. Training and awareness must be prioritised.
